Coin Club Gives Currency to Collegiate
  by Rosalie Spear

As a young and aspiring journalist and college student, I am
well aware of the economic hardships that many Americans
face today. With the cost of college tuition rising and the
expense of books tearing a hole in every student’s pocket, I was
extremely grateful to receive a scholarship from the Las Vegas
Numismatic Society. I dedicate these graciously given funds to
my book expenses every semester. It has helped me out
immensely, and I feel very honored to be a recipient of the
  LVNS Scholarship.
Since I was a young girl, my grandparents, Roslyn and Arthur
Spear, have been Las Vegas Numismatic Society members.
From silver dollars to international coins, my grandparents have
always showed me everything they could about their favorite hobby--
collecting coins. Numismatics is very interesting as to me it is a
representation of history itself. There is a coin for every stitch in time!
In about two years when I graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in
Journalism from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, there will have
already been all kinds of historical events marked by different
currencies across the globe. I am curious to see what new coins will be
around when I start my writing career. If I obtain my dream job of
writing and photographing for National Geographic, I would definitely
want to write a piece on the history of coins and how LVNS and my
grandparents’ passion spiked my interest in them.
By receiving this scholarship from LVNS, I have been able to focus on
my schoolwork more and stress less about the actual cost of education.
I have been very successful so far; I have been on the Dean's List since
my first semester of college and also receive the UNLV Excellence
  Scholarship and the Millennium Scholarship.

  Without the aid of LVNS,
  college would be a very
  different experience for me.
  I couldn’t realistically afford
  to spend hundreds of dollars
for textbooks and I would not
be able to truly place all of
  my effort into my schoolwork
  rather than the cost behind
it. I am extremely grateful to
  receive this scholarship from
such a great club that truly
  values education and America's next
  generation of leaders.

  The Las Vegas Numismatic Society
  provides scholarships for young
  Nevadan collegiate and numismatic
  education to the community. LVNS
  Scholarship recipient, Rosalie Spear, is
  currently pursuing a Journalism degree
at University of Nevada. The club's 50th
Anniversary Coin Show is being held at
the Palace Station Hotel and Casino,
2411 W. Sahara in Las Vegas on Mar 1-
  3. Admission is $3, but is free to readers
who mention this article. For more
  information visit www.ckshows.com or
